Genius Hour Blog #1

Welcome back to my Genius Hour Blog. This week we did a handful regarding our Genius Hour project. We were assigned to learn how to make a PowToon and then created one for our project. We were also assigned to make a trailer for our Genius Hour project and I decided to use iMovie to help me create one. There were times where I felt overwhelmed and frustrated but that comes with learning new technology and trial and error. I felt more comfortable working with iMovie than creating a PowToon because I felt that iMovie was more organized and easier to use. PowToon definitely does have more features and allows you to play around to be more creative, whereas for iMovie there are templates and outlines for different themes. I found it easier to create an iMovie with a template because all I had to do was choose a theme and the program automatically had the outline ready to get me started. I absolutely loved exploring both of the programs because there was so much room for creativity and it was a great learning experience.

This week, I researched different ingredients that I could use to create protein snacks. I wanted to create a healthy protein snack for vegetarians that is easy to make, cheap in cost and tastes good. I did research on different seeds such as chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, sesame seeds, and pumpkin seeds. All five of these seeds are very high in protein and are great because they could easily be incorporated into healthy snacks. I also decided that I wanted to make a no-bake snack, something where I just put together dry ingredients without having to put it in the oven. To make a ball-shaped snack, I realized I need ingredients to keep it together. Some potentials ingredients which will act as a glue for my protein snacks are peanut butter, honey, and maple syrup. I have questions on how to add the sweet component to the snack and how I can make that healthy. Before our next Genius Hour, I need to make sure I have a complete list of ingredients I would like to put in the snack and start recording their nutritional values.

  1. Jaspreet! I have an interest in vegetarian/vegan cooking too (I actually explored vegan cooking for my own Genius Hour Project) so I'm really glad that I clicked on your blog! Your recipes look incredible, and I'll definitely give them a try.
